MOM

My mother, who is 94, says when we hear that she has departed, it wasn't because she wanted to go.

Vain but dignified, she has blond hair, lives by herself but under the watchful eyes of my siblings and keeps her flower garden.

She often speaks of my dad who has been gone a decade.

When I was a young boy, the oldest of eight, she took Jackie Kennedy as her role model.

I don't fear my own death.

People whom I've known for ages are passing every week.

I thank them because they are preparing me for my final exit.

But if there is God, I pray he will spare my children until I've left this troubled but beautiful orb.
