PLEASE BEAR WITH ME, MY THREE READERS

I am presently writing my 25th book entitled MAS O MENOS. (I've probably published more books than I've had readers, but, as often repeated, that is a story for another time.) It will be a collection of 100 to 150 poems, anecdotes and short stories. I have most the material written, but there is the constant editing and putting them in an order that originates a narrative. I am hoping that I can create the experience of living a year in the mid two-thousand twenties.

I use Facebook and The McHale Report to paint my pieces on their limitless white spaces. Regulars sometimes complain that they have previously read them, but they don't understand, even though I have explained my process in the past that these second and third appearances are part of my editing.

Oftentimes, I have increased my audience and they are new to many of my works. And it's usually me at my best because I'm already looking toward the next book. I will also argue, if the product is good enough, don't we like rereading poems or singing in the shower a song we have heard a hundred times? The edits are also better than the original drafts.

There is the additional challenge of keeping my FB and blog active. When I am editing a new book, I don't have the same time to devote my energies to political gossip and breaking news. Though I have no qualms about borrowing from other sources as well as utilizing my free-standing pictures and can always put together a daily package of some sort, I need my old stuff to fill out the presentation.

My biggest worry is the fate of my output. I have written almost non-stop with Brownsville and South Texas as the backdrop for a half-century. I have started a conversation with UTRGV about donating my boxes of papers, but it is in the incipient stage. I must confess that the initial meeting wasn't warm as I as informed the university has standards. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by the cold reception since the UT System has made dissing Brownsville an unfortunate habit.
