CHURCH OF THE CRAZY CHRIST PRAYS FOR SINNERS
Unlike Job, I have sinned. I have sinned time and time again. And, yes, you have punished me, but you haven't taken my wife and children. You haven't left me homeless in the streets. You haven't covered my body in boils.
You didn't spare Adam and Eve for merely sharing an apple. Why should you spare me?
You didn't spare the children in Sodom and Gomorrah even though they were innocent of their parents' depravity. Why should you spare me?
You didn't spare millions in the Great Flood. Why would you spare me?
You didn't spare the first sons in Egypt even though they weren't guilty of defiling you. Why should you spare me?
You didn't spare the thousands of Jews who worshipped the golden calf as the earth swallowed them like a great whale emerging from the ocean and eating a seal. Why would you spare me?
You didn't spare the infants from King Herod's sword? Why would you spare me?
Your ire with humanity's decadence knows no limits. Why would you spare me?
I am guilty. I have broken every Commandment. I have no excuses. I don't deserve your mercy, but I have fallen from the horse and I see the light for the first time in my life.
I prostrate myself before you and plead for compassion. I beg for forgiveness. If you believe I deserve no quarter, I won't dispute your word. You are right. I deserve no pity. Spit on me. Rip my putrid body to pieces. Throw my remains to the dogs.
But spare those who don't deserve punishment for my sins. Don't allow your disgust for me infuriate you to the degree that you will permit the bad to drag the good into the depths of Dante's hell.
In your son's name I pray, even though I deserve nothing more than to be cast into a hole and buried alive, to spare them. Spare the good and do as you will with the bad. I implore you.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost. Amen.
